The EZ Protoboard lets you prototype full speed USB devices using the Cypress
EZ-USB FX microcontroller (an 8051 variant). All EZ-USB I/O lines are wired up
to two female headers that can be used for bread boarding prototype external
circuits or you can create your own stackable daughterboards that attach to
the EZ Protoboard using male headers.
A 40 pin ATA interface is provided on this prototyping board. Given
appropriate firmware (not yet finished), this board could be used as-is
to act as a USB<->ATA bridge. Embedded devices requiring large amounts
of storage space will also find this feature useful.
With 8K of on-chip RAM and builtin USB capability, firmware can be loaded
an unlimited number of times from any USB capable computer. No external FLASH
programmers or EEPROM burners are required to get started. Once firmware is
bug free, a non-volatile serial EEPROM can be programmed incircuit to use for
loading firmware into the onboard RAM at power on (with or without an
attached computer).
Easy to use and reusable over and over again, this board is the perfect toy
for any engineer!
