This is a fully assembled JDM PIC Programmer 2 device for programming PICs, EEPROMs, etc. It is self powered from your PC's serial port making it very easy to use. Our version of this device is built with all surface mount components and a female DB9 connector for a very compact design. We also routed pin RB4 to VSS so that programming PIC16F62x devices will work.

Free Windows software for using the programmer can be found from the WinPic website. This software is not written nor maintained by us. Open source Linux software can be found from the PiKdev or picprog websites.

We have successfully used this device to program PIC12F629, PIC16F627, PIC16F628, and PIC16F84 devices. Devices that don't fit directly in the DIP socket can be programmed using the ICSP header. We have programmed PIC12F675, PIC16F876A, and PIC16F873A chips this way. Many other devices will also work with this programmer if they use the same basic ICSP protocol (see your chip's programming specification datasheet).

This device may not work on some computers with serial ports that run at voltages less than 8.6V. Laptops may have 5V serial ports that do not work and sometimes desktops do too.

This device does not provide a way to change the VDD supply voltage level for verifying at VDD(min) and VDD(max). Therefore, it can only be labeled as a "development" programmer rather than production programmer. See Microchip PIC programming datasheets for more info.

While this device can be plugged directly into the serial port of your PC, you may find it more convenient to use a straight through serial port extension cable so you don't have to reach behind your PC everytime you want to reprogram your chip. We do not provide extension cables, sorry.
