VW Archos Jukebox Interface (with remote control)

This is the VWCDPIC with an Archos Jukebox remote control cable. The cable was made by using a four conductor 3.5mm audio plug, which are not common, but easy to buy if you look around. We used Mouser Part #171-7435.

A four wire cable was soldered to the audio plug, and the other side of the cable soldered to a standard DB25M solder cup connector. The VWCDPIC firmware is then used to convert commands from the head unit's buttons into remote control commands for the Archos Jukebox.

Supposedly, not all Archos Jukebox's manufactured have the remote control hardware. Ours works fine, yours may not.

Rockbox your VW!

The standard Archos firmware does not implement very many remote control features and is generally icky, so we use the Rockbox open source firmware for the Archos Jukebox. We even wrote a patch to support automatic play/pause of the Archos Jukebox when you switch on/off the "CD Changer" from the car stereo head unit.

Charging Cable

A similiar cable could be made to additionally provide power for the Archos Jukebox (using the optional VWCDPIC power control board). This would allow you to recharge the Jukebox's battery while in the car. Archos Jukebox's require a different charging voltage than 12VDC, so you would need to select an appropriate voltage regulator to match your Archos Jukebox's power requirements. This voltage regulator circuit could fit neatly inside the DB25 hood. You should also add a fuse to the yellow VW CD Changer cable for this application.
