VWCDPIC:Compatible Head Units
From K9spud
Most automobile brands from the Volkswagen AG (VAG) group from 1998 and onwards use the same underlying CD Changer protocol, although cabling and connector pin outs may vary. Certain earlier year automobiles may also have a compatible head unit. This Wiki page is meant to list known car stereo head units that the VAG group uses and how well they work with the VWCDPIC firmware.
If you are using a VWCDPIC, please help others by editing the page with comments about your particular head unit and the VWCDPIC firmware version(s) you have tested. If you are having any issues with your head unit, please leave contact info so that test firmware releases can be sent to you.
Note: Generally, we can not magically make head units work -- a developer needs to sit down with his/her own head unit and hack the VWCDPIC firmware source code if something is not working already. Or, at the very least, a dedicated user needs to capture a log file of their VWCDPIC's 19.2Kbps serial output text for developers to analyze later.

Volkswagen
New Beetle
This head unit is the one we originally developed the VWCDPIC on. This head unit works great with the VWCDPIC, no problems whatsoever.
- New Beetles equipped with the "Monsoon" sound system should also work fine.
- In some 2003 and all later New Beetle models, Volkswagen moved the CD Changer connector from the trunk of the car to being mounted inside the center arm rest console. This new location is more ideally located, but the space available to work with is much more cramped. Gwagg posted some pictures at NewBeetle.org that show how he installed his older VWCDPIC in the tight center arm rest console.

RCD300
This head units works, except that the audio remains muted if you exit from CD mode and try to re-enter CD mode without power cycling. I have a patched version of the code that appearantly works around the problem, but I haven't included the changes in the mainline version of the code because I am not sure if it breaks other head units that are currently working.
